
Dr Dorothy Woods Smith is Director of Houses of Healing, a leading
international health organization for the advanced treatment of
chronic pain and stress.
Dorothy holds a BS in Nursing, from Johns Hopkins University, a Master’s in Education from the University
of Southern Maine, and an MA and a PhD in Nursing from New York
University. She holds the rank of Associate Professor Emerita
at the University of Southern Maine.
Dr Woods Smith studied and collaborated with the founders of Therapeutic
Touch (TT), Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz and has been leading TT
workshops and training programs across the United States and in
Japan since 1986. She is a dynamic and informative presenter and
trainer and enjoys creating a memorable atmosphere and experience
for her students and clients.
An award-winning writer and researcher, Dorothy is widely published
in professional journals and is recognized as an international expert
in TT and Holistic Nursing. Dr. Woods Smith is also a clinical provider
of the Relaxation Response (RR) and was trained directly by researcher
and best-selling author Herbert Benson, MD. Her founding of the
Center for Pain and Stress Reduction at the University of Southern
Maine, provided ground-breaking practice and research combining
TT and RR, creating a powerfully effective model in treating chronic
pain and stress.
